Bladerunner
In partnership with the International Center for Creativity, Jacob assisted in developing and leading a class introducing students to the design process. This gave students hands-on experience in design from initial concepts, all the way through prototyping and rendering.

Rendering
This class was designed to take students through the design process.
01
Showing students how to use digital sketching tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Procreate for iPad.
02
CAD Modeling in OnShape and Solidworks to demonstrate techniques for better design.
03
Demonstrating and discussing 3D printing and using slicer programs to generate G-code.
04
Exporting CAD files and composing photorealistic renderings using Keyshot.
Inspiration
Taking inspiration from a groundbreaking sci-fi movie and its modern sequel, Jacob adapted the iconic spinner vehicle into an Automoblox toy.
Key characteristics from the movies were identified:
∙ Spinner aesthetic
∙ Gray, blue and orange
∙ Reflective materials

The main goals for a successful concept would be to accurately convey the idea and aesthetics of a spinner vehicle while being manufacturable for the Automoblox platform. This step helped the students learn how to analyze existing design language, implement basic manufacturability, and refine visual presentation and sketch composition skills.
Concept Development
CAD Modeling & Prototyping
After sketching the design direction, the next part of the design process is to test through prototyping.
Building a working prototype allows students to test the concept to see if it works in harmony with the Automoblox interchangeable play system.

Interchangeable Parts
Successful concept renderings capture not only the design intent but also the mood of the films.
